DSU earns academic honor: The Delaware State volleyball program was named a recipient of the United States Marine/AVCA Team Academic Award.
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
“I am very proud of the members of our team,” said Hornets’ coach Dr. Bruce Atkinson. “These ladies have committed themselves to excelling in their studies and it is nice to see them recognized for their hard work.”
On the court, Delaware State volleyball continued to make great strides during the 2021 season.
Atkinson was named MEAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Hornets to a record-setting season, highlighted by a share of the MEAC regular-season title for the first time since 1987 and a team record 26 wins (26-5).
Delaware State competed in the MEAC championship match for the first time since 2010 and was selected to the field of a national championship tournament (National Invitational Volleyball Championship) for the first time in team history during the ‘21 campaign.
