Delaware completed a three-game series sweep of Delaware State with 9-0, 9-5 victories in baseball on Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
In the opening-game shutout, junior Kyle Hinton threw seven scoreless innings, scattering just a pair of hits over his 93 pitches. The righty totaled 10 strikeouts and struck out at least two batters in four innings.
Freshman Billy Sullivan threw four strong innings for Delaware (5-4) in the nightcap, striking out eight Hornet batters to earn his second Blue Hen win.
At the plate, Delaware received multiple hits from Kevin Mohollen (two doubles, three runs and three RBI), Kyle Baker (two RBI), and Vinny Vaccone (homer, two runs scored), as three different Hens drove in multiple runs.
Wesley earns split: Wesley split with Manhattanville, falling 7-5 before winning the nightcap, 9-5.
Cody Dmiterchik (Cape Henlopen), William Foster and Jarrett Wallace each had two hits apiece in the first game while Kevin Schmitt drove in two runs.
Dmiterchik led the way in the second game, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Will Barton and Jordan Marucci collected two hits apiece while Marucci drove in two runs.
Cody Simet pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs but striking out five in earning the win.
College softball
Delaware State 5, Furman 3: The Hornets victory was their first of the season while also snapping Furman’s 10-game win streak.
Furman had the tying runs on base after scoring twice in the last of the seventh inning, but winning pitcher Alexis Goldsby recorded the third out on a grounder to end the game.
Desiree Moreno had five hits and three RBI in the tournament to raise her season average to .378. Vanessa Washington had two hits this weekend, each a home run, to lead DSU with three homers and six RBI this season.
Wolverines split two: Wesley topped Stevenson 13-5 before dropping the second game, 8-2.
Miranda Kinney and Bianca Newsom both went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the opener for the Wolverines (3-2). Newsom scored three runs while Kinney scored twice and got her first collegiate triple.
Brandi Dalious (Polytech) went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Megan DiRubbio (Polytech) and Ashley Royer both had two-hit days. DiRubbio and Karina Cardona both drove in two runs.
Amanda Curry, Royer and DiRubbio all went 2-for-3 in the nightcap while Royer and DiRubbio each notched an RBI.
Binghamton 9, Delaware 6: Delaware's softball team concluded action at the Citrus Classic with a loss at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.
