Dover High product Jordan Allen is transferring from Rider University, he announced on his Instagram this week.
Allen had just finished his sophomore year with the Rider men’s basketball team. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Allen started 11 of 31 games this season for Rider and averaged 10.1 points per game.
“Thank you to Rider University and to my teammates for this experience the past three years,” Allen wrote on his Instagram. “I am grateful for everything this program has brought to me. However this past season has mentally took a toll on me. As me and my family talked it over it’s best for me to find a new home. I love you all and thank you all for the opportunities you provided for me.”
Allen was a First Team All-Stater at Dover and was named the state’ Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior with the Senators.
He redshirted and maintained freshman eligibility at Rider during the 2016-2017 season. Allen then started all 32 games as a freshman and averaged 13.4 points per game.
DelTech pitchers tough to hit
Delmar High grad Jordan Haddaway has emerged as the top pitcher for the Delaware Tech baseball team.
The freshman has five wins in eight games, 54 strikeouts, and a 1.40 ERA.
As a staff, DelTech’s pitchers own an ERA of 3.51, which is 14th in NJCAA Division II and are holding opponents to a .225 batting average, which is ninth in the nation.
“I knew when I first started playing that I wanted to pitch,” Haddaway said. “There’s just something about striking someone out or fooling them with a pitch. When you’re on the mound, you’re in control.”
Sophomore Ben Hudson of Whaleyville, Md., is DelTech’s closer with a 2.35 ERA and leads the team with five saves. He also has three wins in five starts, and has 47 strikeouts.
Also on this year’s pitching staff for DelTech (16-8-1) are sophomore Evan Nibblett of Seaford, who has a 4.24 ERA; sophomore Tommy Heffernan of Lewes, who has four wins; freshman Jake Brewington of Millsboro; freshman Micah Bregard of Felton; Dylan Allen of Seaford; and Louis Whittaker of Felton.
“We don’t have a lot of pitchers, but we have a lot of quality pitchers,” Nibblett said. “We put in a lot of work in the off-season and we are a tight group and really supportive of each other.”
Steele on a roll at Wilmington
Delaney Steele (Caesar Rodney High) set a new Wilmington University single-game record this week when she had eight assists in a single game on Tuesday against Holy Family.
Steele had just tied the school record one game prior when she had seven assists against Nyack. She has 21 assists in the past three games.
Steele, who redshirted last season, also earned her second CACC women’s lacrosse Rookie of the Week award last week.
Steele leads the Wildcats in assists with 38. She is also fourth on the team in goals with 23.
