Lillian E. Smith, 99 SEAFORD - Lillian E. Smith, of the Methodist Manor House, Seaford, and formerly a 60-year resident of Wilmington, died on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008. She was 99. One of five children born to Daniel Eddleston and Kathryn Rohlfing in Sayre, Pa., she attended Wilson Borough High School in Easton, Pa. Her marriage to Montford Smith took the family across the United States with the DuPont Company including Ashland, Wis., Kankakee, Ill., Birmingham, Ala., Richard, Wash., Clinton, Iowa, Old Hickory, Tenn., and Buffalo, N.Y. She was a former model in Atlantic City, a newspaper editor in Richland, Wash., a guide at Hagley Museum in Wilmington, a Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and a 56-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization that assists women in furthering their education. In addition, she was an avid reader, a daily walker, an antique hound and a good neighbor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Montford H. Smith. She is survived by four daughters, Kathryn L. Schauer of Palo Alto, Calif., Susan J. Arpad of Wadsworth, Ohio, Sally A. Lambert of Delmar, Md., and Mary E. Farnell of Seaford; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Eddleston of Great Bend, Pa. Services will be private at the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family asks that flowers be omitted. Donations would be welcome by the Lillian and Montford Smith Family Fund of the Delaware Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1636, Wilmington, DE 19899 that benefits the citizens of Delaware through charitable organizations or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Chandler Funeral Homes & Crematory.
