Lillian E. Evans, 88

SMITH ISLAND - Lillian E. Evans, of Ewell, Smith Island, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at her home. She was 88. Born on Ewell, Smith Island, she was a daughter of the late Tankard and Eva Marie Evans Harrison. Her husband, Elmer L. Evans, preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2008. A homemaker, she was a faithful member of Ewell United Methodist Church where she was active in the UMW. She was also a member of the Ewell Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Lillian loved people; she never knew a stranger, and enjoyed talking to everyone she met. Her joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved spending time with. She also loved canning fruits and vegetables, and was very talented at it. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Bruce and husband Barry of Ewell; her daughter-in-law, Connie Evans of Fairmount; six grandchildren, Anita Kitching and husband Mark of Ewell, Valerie Nelson and husband Mark of Charlotte, N.C., Norwood Evans and wife Hope of Tangier, Va., Lance Dize and wife Kristy of Eden, Jenny Evans of Annapolis, and LeeAnna Evans of Fairmount; seven great-grandchildren, Ashli and Gabrielle Nelson, Rebekah and Joseph David Kitching, Hailey and Chloe Dize, and Cameron Evans; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin Ellison and Lowery Evans; two brothers, Edward and Daniel Harrison; and one sister, Elizabeth Marshall. Funeral services with Rev. Rick Edmund officiating were held Sunday, March 22, at Ewell U.M. Church on Smith Island. Interment was in the Ewell Church Cemetery. Memorial donations are requested to be sent to Ewell Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary or Ewell U.M. Church, both Ewell, MD 21824.
