BEAR — Michael Ruduszewski, 40, of Lewes, was arrested for second-degree assault and related charges following a shooting Jan. 1, Delaware State Police said.
Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said that, at approximately 2:46 p.m., troopers responded to ChristianaCare, Newark, for a 45-year-old male who drove himself to the emergency room after being shot in the upper body at Express Food Mart, 703 Pulaski Highway, Bear.
An investigation revealed that a suspect carrying a handgun approached the victim while he was inside his vehicle and fired one round, striking him, Cpl. Hatchell said. Subsequently, Mr. Ruduszewski was identified as a suspect, and troopers obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On Tuesday, police located him leaving a residence in the 100 block of Marabou Drive, Newark, where he was taken into custody without incident.
A search warrant at the residence led to the discovery of a Glock handgun, reported stolen out of Pennsylvania, police said.
Mr. Ruduszewski was charged with second-degree assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, Wilmington, on a $30,000 secured bond.
