Letter to the Editor: When Plan C is what’s left for Democrats

Posted

We are all familiar with the importance of having a Plan B if Plan A doesn’t work. But a Plan C?

We have just witnessed a colossal failure of what looked like a wonderful Plan A: The Democrats owned the Senate, until they didn’t. Down the drain went Build Back Better, the voting rights bills and the end of the filibuster.

There are some who believe that, because of the above, we will lose in the next election cycle and, with it, the House and Senate. After that, the return of the Don, or a Don clone, is almost a sure thing. And with that outcome, we can kiss our democracy goodbye.

Others, including myself, believe that we are now in the midst of a Plan B, where the rule of law will at least give us a second chance. This assumes, of course, that the following things happen or come close enough to happening: The coup plotters, including the Don, are indicted and the attempts by certain key states to undermine voting and erase unwanted vote tallies, are defeated in the courts.

But even assuming that we get a second chance, we still need a Plan C. We need to have enough Democrats, Independents and moderate Republicans show up at the polls to soundly defeat the radicalized Republican Party.

Our democracy depends on it. There is no Plan D.
