LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Borders shouldn't separate us

Posted
In response to “Their choice” (Letter to the Editor, July 5), is it really a choice if the alternative to crossing the border is death, torture or rape? These people who are fleeing are our human neighbors in a world that is connected by common decency and global responsibility. How can we ignore the plight of others whose lives will one day, sooner than later, be part of one world striving to live in a common sphere of a healthy environment where no one goes hungry and all are safe from war? Physical, geographic, or national boundaries can no longer separate our common humanity. We have advanced from tribal days to a more sophisticated people who realize the similarities all humans share.
