Letter to the Editor: Blunt Rochester is asked about Capitol security

Posted

Editor’s note: The following letter was sent to U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del., on Feb. 20.

You were elected and took the oath of office to uphold the U.S. Constitution. You are so partisan and out of control, apparently having no concerns with allowing undocumented people to stream into the United States. However, a wall has been placed around the Capitol. What about MS-13 and cartel operatives bringing drugs into our country that kill American citizens? Obviously, you are only concerned about your own safety, not the safety of Americans.

I’m tired of being referred to as “a White supremacist” and other names by elected officials. Shame on them. You have remained mute about Black Lives Matter and antifa, as well as violence in Portland, Oregon; Seattle; and other U.S. locations, where protesters injured citizens and burned property, including a police station, etc. Shame on you and your fellow Democrats for not immediately denouncing these actions.

I’m 79 years old, a lifelong Democrat and a two-tour U.S. Army veteran in Vietnam. And I’m very unhappy with Democrats in the U.S. House and Senate.

Many Delawareans share my concerns on these issues and are leaving the party or just voting against Democrats. Thank yourself for the division.

I am requesting from you an answer to this question: When will the fence and military forces around our Capitol be removed? We promote our country as a free democracy. Are we free with a fence topped with razor wire around our Capitol? What kind of message are you sending to our citizens and the world?
