Leonard Lester Miller, 82 WESTOVER - Leonard Lester Miller, age 82, died June 19, 2010 at his beloved family farm, where he had spent the majority of his life, in Westover, Md. Born March 20, 1928, in Westover, Md., he was the son of the late Lester and Claire Miller. Leonard was one of twelve children; nine brothers and sisters survive him: Dan Miller; Omar (Nick) Miller; Floyd Miller; Albert Miller; Richard Miller; Lois Cristman; Marian Miller; Alice Bontrager and Joyce Thieszen. A brother, Clifford Miller and a sister, Sylvia Hostetler predeceased him. Leonard was a life long farmer who enjoyed the beauty of creation, birds and other wildlife from many different vantage points including the front windows of his house, his golf cart, and the cab of any tractor. He was named Outstanding Young Farmer for Somerset and Worcester County in 1962. He was a member of Holly Grove Mennonite Church in Westover. A life long Christian, he served the Lord in his quiet manner and his faith never wavered through any difficulty. He knew the Bible well, believed in the promises it holds and was particularly interested in Biblical prophecy. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Miller who died April 1, 2003 and an infant daughter, Brenda Joy. Survivors include: four children and their spouses, Wendy Hancock and her husband, Trent of Eustis, Fla., Melanie Parks of North Wales, Pa., Kevin Miller and his wife, Vicki of Westover, Md., and Karen Williams of Salisbury, Md. He is also survived by over 30 foster children that he served as a temporary father for during his life. Also surviving him are seven grandchildren, Rhonda Gabbard and her husband, Derek, Ericka Hancock, Nicole Seeley and her husband, Bill, Thomas Miller and his fiancée, Elizabeth Pollock, Samuel Parks and his wife, Amanda, Jessica Williams, Mark Paul Williams; and, three great-grandchildren, Donovan and Rebekah Gabbard, and Braden Seeley. He also leaves behind his two much loved dogs, Lilly and Dexter. A funeral service was held Friday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at Holly Grove Mennonite Church in Westover. Friends called at the Church one hour prior to the service. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Holly Grove Mennonite Church - Building Fund, 7333 Mennonite Church Road, Westover, MD 21871.
