MARYDEL - Lee Messick passed away Friday Feb. 22, 2013 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mr. Messick was born in 1941 in Harrington, Del. to the late Chauncey Messick and Edna Garnet Austin. He taught at Delaware Technical and Community College both in Dover and Georgetown for ten years and then was co-owner of Lawrence and Messick Refrigeration, a heating and air conditioning company, for 15 years until his retirement. Mr. Messick enjoyed building and racing stock cars at tracks in Lincoln, Georgetown and Delmar; Del. as well as many others in the Northeast. He also enjoyed RC model airplanes and was a founding member of the Kent County Aero Modelers (KCAM, formerly DE Mosquitos). Following his retirement he enjoyed playing golf, hunting and NASCAR. Mr. Messick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann of Marydel, Del.; son, Lee "Brett" Messick and daughter Susan Melvin both of Marydel, Del.; grandsons, D.J. Melvin of Marydel and Justin Messick of Dover; great-grandchildren, Drake Melvin and Kelsey Messick; numerous nieces; nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
