
DOVER - Lawrence Mast passed on to glory Oct. 1, 2012, at 2:20 p.m., at Kent General Hospital. Larry was born to Clarence and Sylvia Mast on Sept. 7, 1929, in Dover, Del.; he was the oldest of eight children. He married Carolyn Mae Swartzentruber on Feb. 11, 1951, and together had six children. Working in his father's sawmill and farm in Hartly, Del., he continued on with his own lumber business for over 25 years. He was involved in several business ventures including real estate, campers, furniture and cars. He was an active advocate of civil and human rights generating changes in local communities, integrating the Milford Bowling league with the first African-American team sponsored by his business in the turbulent 60's. Bowling was one of his great loves. As team captain, they won the trophy the first year. Camping trips and travel was a great part of the family life. Larry was raised Amish and became Mennonite when his father did. Larry became involved in the Charismatic renewal in the mid 1970's. He was involved with Gerald Derstine at Christian Retreat in Bradenton, Fla. He was a key leader in bringing the protestant churches and Holy Cross together during the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Dover. He became Pastor of Christian Life Center in Dover in 1977. Many people , including two sons, are in ministry today because of his life. Larry remained active in ministry to his final days. He traveled to India and Africa on mission trips. Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn; second wife, Estella Marcy of 7 years; his brother, Daniel; and granddaughter, Jennifer Dyson. He is survived by his siblings, Lillie Simmons, Irene Kauffman, John Mast, William Mast, Clarence Mast and Robert Mast; and his children: Karen Alderfer, Dale Mast, Louise Dyson Wood, Charlene Money, Jay Mast and Kevin Mast; 29 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Destiny Christian Church, 2161 Forrest Ave, Dover, DE 19904. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the Greenwood Mennonite School, 12802 Mennonite School Road, Greenwood, DE 19950. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Mennonite Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood.
