Lawrence E. Lewis Sr.

MILFORD - Lawrence E. Lewis Sr., 78, of Milford, and formerly of Lincoln, and Crisfield, Md., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at his home. Born in Crisfield on June 30, 1932, he was a son of the late Lucious and Mamie Pestridge Lewis. He was a retired locksmith and also retired after working 36 years with the civil service as an aircraft mechanic at Dover Air Force Base. A US Air Force veteran, he was a member of the Milford Church of God where he served on the Pastor's Council and sang in the choir. He also served on the Milford City Council from 1981 until 2003 and spearheaded the revitalization in Milford. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and coached Little League for many years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Rae Landon Lewis; four sons, Larry Lewis and wife Donna and Kevin Lewis, all of Lincoln, David Lewis and wife Wendie of Milford and Woody Lewis and wife Patty of Edgewater, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Martha Whitley, Lindsay Lewis, Landon Lewis, Katlyn Lewis, Casey Lewis, Brandon Betts, Cortney Lewis, Ashley Lewis, Brooke Lewis, Danielle Lewis, Kellie Smitherman and Jackie Govel; one step-grandson, William "B.J." Zeallor; two great-grandchildren, Gavin Whitley and Natalie Lewis; one niece, Joelle Crockett; three nephews, Scott Ward, Tag Landon and J.P. Parkinson; and several great-nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Mae Laird and Myrtle Parkinson; and a nephew, Jason Ward. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at noon at the Milford Church of God, where friends called from 10 a.m. until service time. The Rev. W.C. Vaughan officiated. Interment with military honors was Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to Milford Church of God, 500 N.
