The chairs of the 151st General Assembly’s education and health committees will host a virtual forum about childhood lead exposure at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
The free public event will focus on the recent results of lead testing at public schools across Delaware. That data revealed the presence of lead in the water supplies of nearly 50 school buildings.
The meeting will be attended by Senate Health & Social Services Committee chair Sen. Sarah McBride, D-Wilmington; Senate Education Committee chair Sen. Laura Sturgeon, D-Woodbrook; House Health & Human Development Committee vice chair Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown, D-New Castle; House Education Committee chair Rep. Kim Williams, D-Newport; and officials from the departments of Health and Social Services and Education.
While most of the tested water sources that showed the presence of lead are not used for drinking, at least one facility has shut off its drinking-water supply.
During the forum, representatives of each department will discuss the results of the testing, how the tests were conducted and plans for remediation.
