Laurel man sought after shooting incident

LAUREL — A Laurel man was sought by police after a shooting incident Wednesday in which an 18-year-old woman was shot once in the chest, authorities said.

Laurel Police said the incident occurred in the area of 400 Pasture Lane, Hollybrook Apartments and officers were called to the scene at approximately 9:42 p.m. The woman was transported via medivac helicopter to a regional trauma center in serious but stable condition.

Police said a 21-year-old man suffered minor facial injuries during the incident and refused EMS transport.

Police identified the suspect as James Surratt, 25, and said he is wanted for first-degree assault and other charges.

No firearm connected to the case has been located, police said.

Police said Mr. Surratt has ties to Millsboro and the Hollybrook Apartments.
According to a police news release, “(Mr.) Surratt is believed to be armed and dangerous, and the public is being asked to call 911 if he is located but not approach or confront him.”
