DELMAR — A 27-year-old Laurel man died from injuries sustained in crash Thursday.
At approximately 5:51 p.m., Delaware State Police said, a Hyundai Tucson was traveling north on Bi State Boulevard, north of Allens Mill Road. Just ahead of the Tucson, a man on a motorized skateboard was riding down the center of Bi State Boulevard, authorities said.
For unknown reasons, the man swerved right, into the Tucson’s path, police said. The vehicle swerved right to avoid him, but the skateboarder continued into the northbound lane and was struck.
Due to the impact, the man was forced onto the SUV’s windshield before falling off and coming to rest on the road. The Tucson continued swerving right and struck a mailbox.
The skateboarder was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name is being withheld pending notification of kin.
The Tucson’s driver, a 21-year-old woman from Fruitland, Maryland, was uninjured. The road was closed for approximately four hours.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and asks witnesses to contact Master Cpl. K. Argo at 302-703-3264, send a message via the state police Facebook page or call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
