LAUREL - Robert Cooper, 58, of Laurel, was arrested on a sixth offense DUI charge following an investigation Sunday, Delaware State Police police said.

Spokesman Master Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said that at approximately 12:17 p.m., troopers responded to the parking lot of the Nylon Capital Shopping Center at 1023 West Stein Highway regarding a person who had been reportedly drinking and driving.

Troopers located a red 2014 Chevrolet Cruze in the parking lot, which Cooper was inside. A DUI investigation ensued after troopers contacted Cooper and noticed signs of impairment, police said.

Cooper was taken into custody without incident and charged with the felony DUI count. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $50,000 cash bond.
