Mercer, 25 days SMYRNA - Kirsten Marie Mercer went home to be with the Lord at the tender age of 25 days on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013. Kirsten was born on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 in Newark, Del. the daughter of Steven and Lauren Mercer of Smyrna, Del. She is now in Heaven with her twin sister, Katrena, who passed away on January 4, 2013. Although Kirsten's time on earth was short, she touched many hearts with her love. Despite being born premature, she had a strong, fighting spirit. Kirsten enjoyed listening to her Grandma sing Irish songs, having children's books read to her, and keeping her parents and nurses on their toes due to her feisty nature. She hated to be swaddled and always tried to break free. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Thomas B. and Patricia A. Mercer of Wyoming, Del.; her maternal grandparents, Michael A. and Kathleen M. Novello of Wilmington, Del.; her uncles, James P. Mercer of Chicago, Ill. and Mark A. Novello and his wife Jessica A. of Perry Hall, Md. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Graveside services will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to March of Dimes, Delaware Chapter. To donate in Kirsten's memory, please visit
