WORCESTER, Mass. – Kent County’s District I Big League softball all-stars are headed back to the World Series after capturing the Eastern Regional title on Wednesday afternoon.

Kent County downed New York, 12-3, in the championship game to earn a trip to the Series, which starts on Sunday at Lower Sussex Little League in Roxana.

District I got past Massachusetts District-3, 2-1, in the semifinals earlier in the day on Wednesday.

Kent County’s roster includes several players who were on the District I squad that won the Senior League World Series in Roxana last summer. District I opens the tournament on Sunday by facing Sussex County’s District III at 5:30 p.m. at Lower Sussex.

In Wednesday’s semis, Shaina Reed singled home Whitney DeMora with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as District I edged Massachusetts District 3.

District I, which went 6-0 in the regional, led 1-0 before Massachusetts tied it with a homerun in the top of the seventh.
