SMYRNA - Col. (Ret.) Kenneth P. Brown, 83, of Smyrna, passed away on November 28, 2014 at his home. Col. Brown was born in Duck Creek to Sidney & Helen Barrett Brown on January 18, 1931. He graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, Del. in 1950. He married Regina Ireland Furst in 1987. He was a marketing representative for E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. and retired in 1992 after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Col. Brown joined the Delaware Army National Guard in 1947 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1957 and retired from active duty in 1983. Col. Brown was a former Councilman in the Town of Smyrna, a Son of the American Revolution, member of Harmony Lodge No. 13 of Smyrna, former president of the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs and the Duck Creek Horticulture Society, a life member of the Duck Creek Historical Society, and member of the Biggs Museum of American Art. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brother, John B. Brown; and 1st wife, Loretta Mary. Col. Brown is survived by his wife, Regina; sons, Kenneth P. of Newark, and John C. (Stacey) of Cody, Wyo.; daughters, Charlotte (Michael) Marine of Clayton, Robin (Wade) Orth of Smyrna, and Pamela Furst of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Lauren Dempsey of Melbourne, Michael and Sarah Marine of Clayton, and Wade Holden Orth of Smyrna; nephews, John B. Brown of Lander, Wyo. and Daniel T. Brown of Annapolis, Md. A viewing will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2014 and again at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Masonic services will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
