HARTLY - Kathryn "Kay" Carrera passed away Monday Oct. 21, 2013 at Kent General Hospital from pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Carrera was born Mar. 24, 1942 in St. Petersburg, Pa. to the late Forest Shoup and Mildred Garis Shoup. She had worked for Pacific Bell in California (now AT&T) first as an operator and then as an engineering manager until she retired in 1989. She then went to work at the Novato Police Department in Novato, Calif. first as a Dispatcher and then an Evidence Technician for a short time. Mrs. Carrera moved to Pennsylvania in 1995 and then to Hartly, Del. in 2005. She was a member and very active in Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and a charter member of QVC (the shopping network). She loved going to auctions, especially ones with quilts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Calli Ann Murray; and her daughter, Dori Andres. She is survived by her husband, Allan "Al" Andres of Hartly; sons, Brian Murray of Sonoma, Calif., Greg Murray of Hartly, Jeff Murray and his wife Ling of Rohnert Park, Calif. and Chris Andres and his wife Alina of Petaluma, Calif.; brother, Al Shoup and his wife Janice of Sharpsburg, Ga.; sister, Barbara McBrayer and her husband, Loyd of Griffin, Ga.; thirteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Celebration of her life will be held in the spring when her flowers are in bloom. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, she would appreciate contributions to be made to the Kent County SPCA, as she loved dogs, and had 4 of her own as the family pack leader.
