Katherine LeRoy, 90

DOVER - Katherine LeRoy, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. She was 90. Mrs. LeRoy was born Feb. 29, 1919 in Anderson, S.C., the daughter of the late John Henry Hunter and Lillie Robertson Hunter. Mrs. LeRoy worked as a seamstress for many years before retiring and was a 50 year member of Brooklyn Tabernacle Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. She enjoyed sewing very much and was fond of gardening. Katherine loved spending time with her family and was known to love everyone and be loved by everyone in return. This held true even during her final days at the hospital, as the staff grew very fond of her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burdell LeRoy in January, 1991; four daughters, Mary, Alberta, Gloria, and Loretta; and a son, Johnny. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Gonzalez of Dover; a son, Thomas Haynesworth of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Johnny Hunter of Belton, S.C.; a sister, Margaret McKaney of Queens, N.Y.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and other family members. Funeral services will be offered 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna. Friends may call for a viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors Inc., 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
