Watkins, 89 SANDPOINT - Katherine E. "Kitty" Watkins, passed away from acute leukemia on Thursday, August 9, 2012, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Private family services will be held at a later date. Kitty was born on January 16, 1923, in Berlin N.H. to Sylvain and Nellie Wedge. During her school years she was active in 4-H, snow skiing and ice skating. At age 19, she moved to Washington D.C. and worked in the Pentagon for the Army Postal Service during World War II. After the war was over she continued with the US Postal Service for 33 years. She married William Watkins, Sr in 1948, they lived first in Berlin, N.H. and later in Falls Church, Va. After she retired from the postal service in 1987, she moved to Cambridge, Md., where she served as volunteer chairman for the AARP Blood Bank for 15 years. In June of 2011, she moved to Vermont to be near her son, William, and in December of that year moved to Idaho to be near her daughter Barbara. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Dorchester Hospital and worked in the Robin Hood Shop; a thrift store that raised funds for the Ladies Auxiliary. Kitty was well loved and will be remembered by many for her quick smile and her kind and generous nature. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed her volunteer work, camping and traveling around the country with Bill in their motor home visiting friends. She is survived by her son, William (Paulette) Watkins, Jr. of Bloomfield, VT.; daughter Barbara Blood of Sandpoint, ID.; two sisters, Louise Griffin of Manchester, N.H. and Mary Jane Lambert of Fairfax, Va.; five grandchildren; and 14, great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William in 2005, and two brothers Leonard and James Wedge. Due to her macular degeneration Kitty's wishes were that memorial donations be made to help the blind or visually impaired. Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint is handling the arrangements. Please visit Katherine's online memorial at www.lakeviewfuneral.com and sign her guest book.
