WILMINGTON — A 17-year-old was arrested for operating a stolen vehicle, among other charges, following a pursuit Saturday.
Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said that, at approximately 9:10 p.m., troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2019 Toyota Highlander in the area of Gov. Printz Boulevard. The operator failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued, until the Highlander struck a utility pole at Philadelphia Pike and Rodman Road, he said.
The driver, a 17-year-old male from Bear, was taken into custody without further incident. Cpl. DeMalto said three additional passengers — a 16-year-old male from Wilmington, an 18-year-old female from Wilmington and an 18-year-old female from Philadelphia — were not charged. All four sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
After a vehicle search led to the discovery of approximately 198.84 grams of marijuana, the driver was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, receiving stolen property over $1,500, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity, disregarding a police officer’s signal, three counts of vehicular assault in the second degree, resisting arrest and numerous traffic offenses.
The teen was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 while at the hospital and later committed to the New Castle County Detention Center, Wilmington, on a $20,313 secured bond.
