Milford - Joseph H. Coverdale formerly of Scotch Plains, NJ passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Ellendale, DE the son of the late Alfred T. and Mary Louise (Hurd) Coverdale. Joe and his wife, Kathleen owned and operated "The Voice of Hunterdon" Newspaper for 15 years before moving to Delaware. Once in Delaware, he worked as a BMW salesman at i.g. Burton in Milford for 18 years before becoming ill. He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, the Harrington Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He was an avid pool player and was a member of the Billiard Congress of America. Joe enjoyed playing golf and going to Myrtle Beach, S.C. with his brother Earl and his friends. He was a stock car dirt track driver in Flemington, N.J. for 12 years. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Coverdale. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen A. Coverdale; two daughters, Christine Coverdale and her significant other, Jenny Badtke, of Germany and Jacquie Kisiel and her husband, Bill of Rehoboth Beach; two brothers, Earl Coverdale and his wife, Noela and Bud Coverdale and his wife, Bev, all of Milford; a nephew, Greg Coverdale, his wife, Karen and their daughter, Kimberly; nieces Amanda Wright and Carrie Coverdale; many great nieces and nephews as well as Jessica Nathan, who Joe considered as his daughter. Friends may call from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 pm on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Avenue, Milford. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Robert Masten for his extraordinary direction and personal care he provided Joe during his courageous battle with Melanoma. They would also like to thank Pastor John Davis for his kindness, pastoral care and visits. Because of their kindness and care for Joe, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
