Joseph E. Callaway, 93

DELMAR - Joseph E. Callaway of Delmar, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 25, 2007, in his daughter's home. He was 93.

Mr. Callaway was born Feb. 1, 1914, in Millsboro, son of the late Grover Callaway and Hester Truitt Callaway.

He was a longtime, active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Salisbury since 1955, where he was a member of the Men's Fellowship Group and worked as member of the Apple Dumpling Gang for many years.

For more than 25 years, he worked side by side with his wife in the business they owned, Callaway Gardens. There they grew and sold annuals and plants, geraniums were their specialty, and also worked on the farm raising chickens and grains.

Mr. Callaway will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hilda Foltz Callaway, who passed in 1980; two brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Darlene and Lee Alexander and Brenda Given, all of Delmar; three grandchildren, Jeff Alexander, Kim Eckert and Dawn Roberts; and six great-grandchildren, Josh, Tori, Jared, Kira, Courtney and Liann.

A funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Bethany Lutheran Church, 817 Camden Ave., Salisbury, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Revs. Kevin Wackett and Howard Travers will officiate.

Burial will follow in Wicomico Memorial Park, Salisbury.
