Cherriman, 68 DOVER - John Walter Cherriman, went home to be with the Lord, Oct. 13, 2012. John was born March 29, 1944 in Lewes, Sussex, England to the Late-Walter & Joan(Pierce) Cherriman. John was a graduate of Smyrna High School; and was a volunteer in doing tax preparation for A.A.R.P. He had worked for the phone company for 32 years. John was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. John served proudly in the United States Navy for six years, during the Vietnam Era; serving aboard the U.S.S. Waddell, D.D.G. He enjoyed fly fishing, & cooking and perfecting baking recipes. He loved to ride his bicycle and motorcycles. John was preceded in death by his brother, James Cherriman. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Charlotte(Bothell) Cherriman; three children, Jeremy N. Cherriman and his wife-Penny; Electronics Technician, S.S., Navy Ops, Jared M. Cherriman, of Bremerton,Washington; and Jenny Lynn Cherriman Kopp and her husband- Zachary, of Camden; two brothers, David and Andrew Cherriman, both of Clayton; his grandchildren, Lillian, Alison, Nuria, Brian, Mirick, Makayla and Miley Cherriman, Gracie and Tadd Kopp; as well as extended family in England. Services will be held 7 pm Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, in the Smyrna Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 310 Clark Farm Rd., Smyrna; where family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720 or the Disabled American Veterans, 183 South Street, Camden, DE 19934.
