LAUREL - John (Jack) W. Jester, Sr., of Columbus, Ohio, and long-time resident of Laurel, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Kobacker House, in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Salisbury, Md., son of the late John Thomas Jester and Pauline Waller Jester. He graduated from Laurel Senior High School and later served in the Delaware Army National Guard. He was married for 35 years and worked as a Prep Operator for Perdue in Salisbury, Md. for 43 years. He was also an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anna Horseman, Frances Ellingsworth, and Betty Poore. He is survived by his only son, John Jr. (Alice); two grandchildren, Julia and Andrew of Westerville, Ohio; sister, Florence Hughes of Seaford; several nephews and nieces; and his companion and former wife, Judy Jester. A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, Del., where friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in Blades Cemetery. John requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to your favorite charity or to Ohio Health Foundation, ATTN: Kobacker House, 180 East Broad Street, Floor 31, Columbus, OH 43215-3707.
