DOVER - John R. Kohl, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mr. Kohl was born September 11, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., to the late Howard J. Kohl and Catherine Magnan Kohl. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a ship fitter and pipe fitter. Mr. Kohl had worked for 30 years for United Distributors in the Washington, D.C. and Columbia, Md. area as a controller/accountant. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover and D.A.V. club and several ballroom dancers clubs. Mr. Kohl enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife and watching the Washington Redskins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Pissott Kohl, 1/19/2012. He is survived by his daughters, Renee Kohl of Dover, Kathryn Ruhlin and her husband Thomas, of Reston, Va; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Boyle and her husband Patrick, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa; long time family friend, Dennis Kilian of Dover; and great neighbors and friends, Bob and Terri Hice of Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon, Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. There will be a reception at Del Vets on Pear Street in Dover following the internment. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com.
