DOVER - John P. (Jack) Kelly II died on Sept. 10, 2015 at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover. Born in Trenton, N.J., and raised in Yardley, Pa., he was the son of the late Eugene J. and Edna (Hill) Kelly. Jack was a graduate of George School in Newtown, Pa. and later graduated from Lehigh University. He proudly served his country stationed at Gitmo as a Corpsman in the Navy. Mr. Kelly summered on Long Beach Island, N.J. where, among other things, he and his brothers clammed, crabbed and raced champion Lightnings. It was there on Long Beach Island where he met the love of his life, former Miss Surf City, Cecilia Mockler. They spent 60 years in marital bliss. Jack and Cele moved to Dover in 1957, where he was the co-owner of Dover Appliance and Refrigeration and Dover Air Ducts, and of Crescent Farm Nursing Home. Jack took special pleasure in the fellowship of many groups throughout his life, from the Delaware Veterans of WWII, Post 2 (the Del Vets Club), Holy Cross Church (Guidelines Committee), his friends in politics from both sides of the aisle, and his friends in business, to his Irish setters: Casey, Max, and Finnian. He was a member of the 123rd Delaware General Assembly representing the 27th Representative District from 1965-1967. Jack enjoyed golf, house restoration projects, the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers, his gin and tonic, pipe, and peanuts (Not necessarily in that order). He took special dislike in the rest of the NFC East, especially the Cowboys. Most of all, Jack cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He will always be known as Hero to many, Mentor to countless, Friend to all. In addition to his parents, Eugene J. and Edna Hill Kelly, he is preceded in death by his youngest brother Tom. He is survived by his loving wife, Cele, his children and their spouses: John and Laura; Michael and Sylvia; Cissie (Cecilia) and Gus Mergenthaler; Sheila and Chris Coon; his grandchildren: Tim, JP, Kathryn, Michael, Lexi, Kelly, Maura, and Shawn; his great-grandchildren: Timmy, Azriel and Ariel; his brothers and their spouses: Gene and Sally, and Bill and Joanne; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Bill Kelly Jr. Memorial Fund via www.billkellyjr.com, The Delaware Veterans Post #2 Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 417, Dover, Del. 19903-0417, The Shepherd Place, 1362 S. Governors Avenue, Dover, Del. 19904, or by raising a glass to honor Jack. Life's End Services are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director, Inc., Dover. Condolences may be forwarded via www.ambruso.com
