Tip was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Mansfield, Ohio.

He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and later served five years in the U.S. Air Force.

Following his discharge from the military, he pursued a career in engineering sales.

He was active at the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey for 40 years where he served as a deacon, elder and sang in the choir.

His love of music brought him 35 years of enjoyment with The Barbershop Quartet, as well as a men's chorus, the Orpheus Choir, both in Ridgewood, N.J.

Tip's activities included a love of tennis and platform tennis at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club.

For many years he served as a camp counselor and more recently served on the board of the Presbyterian Camp and Conference Center.
