MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Mr. John Jeffery Curtin of Morgantown W.Va. passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the age of 59. Jeff was born to parents John and Carol Curtin on January 22, 1956. He grew up along the ocean and had a strong love for the sea leading him to join the Merchant Marines out of high school. During that time, he learned to cook, which steered him to the independent restaurant trade, cooking and developing menus for several restaurants. He eventually joined his father in the family food brokerage business, before settling down with his soul mate, Kathy Curtin, in 1993, and having two children. He was a creative individual who was always coming up with new business ideas, two of which were Bakers Ridge Pet Hotel, considering his natural love and talent for animals, a sound investment, and Bakers Ridge Golf Driving Range, an idea founded upon his love for the sport. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar, loved learning new things, and always strived to be his best. Jeff was a stay at home father who loved spending time with his family and cooked meals (and pies) that were better than could be purchased out. Jeff is survived by his wife, Kathy Curtin, nee Baker; his daughters, Emily and Melinda Curtin; his brothers, Michael A. Curtin and Ronald A. Curtin; his sister, Margaret A. Curtin; and his mother; Carol A. Curtin. He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Curtin, and is remembered and missed by his community. Jeff was a good man, father, and husband and his loss will be felt by those whose lives he has touched. A memorial for Jeff will be held at a later date, information on this memorial will be found in the newspaper, family and friends are welcomed to attend.
