John H. 'Jack' Sanders, 69
WESTMINSTER - John Harold "Jack" Sanders, 69, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Carroll Hospice Dove House.
He was born Aug. 12, 1938 in Preston, the son of Margaret Isabel Chambers Sanders of Preston and the late James W. Sanders. He was the husband of Janet Marlene Thomas Sanders, his wife of 45 years.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a 1961 graduate of the University of Maryland College Park and a member of the fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho. He began his career on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Somerset, then Wicomico, Carroll and retired from Frederick County as District Manager with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Soil Conservation Department.
He enjoyed restoring furniture, boating and gardening. He was a member of Bethesda Methodist Church in Preston and Spedden's Methodist Church in Cambridge.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughter and her husband, Donna Lynn Sanders and Scott D. Amtsberg of Salisbury and son and daughter-in-law, Daniel William and Becky Hopkins Sanders of Goshen, Va.; brothers, James W. Jr. and wife, Barbara Sanders and Richard and wife, Janice Sanders and sister, Ann S. and husband, J.C. Bateman, all of Preston; grandchildren, Olivia S. and Ottilie S. Amtsberg and Rae E. and Ali G. Sanders; nieces and nephews, Carole Gurney, Scott Sanders, Kimberly Sanders, Lisa Carroll, Rex Bateman, Jackie Gowe, Bobby Thomas and Allison Scharsh; brother-in-law, Gordon S. Thomas of Cambridge; mother-in-law, Evelyn S. Thomas of Cambridge.
A funeral service was held April 13 at Bethesda Methodist Church, 154 Main St., Preston with the Rev. Joan Wolff officiating. Burial was in Junior Order Cemetery in Preston.
