MILFORD - John H. "Jack" French, Jr. died Thursday, Jan. 14 2016 at Milford Center. He is the son of the late John H. French, Sr. and Ruby Best French. Mr. French served on the Delaware State Police at Troop # 4, Georgetown. He retired as Detective Sergeant in charge of the Criminal Division. Farming was his lifelong passion with his favorite place being on the tractor or combine. He was an avid outdoorsman and if not farming he could be found on a boat. He loved fishing, hunting, trapping and traveling and shared this love with his family. He served as Past Chief of South Bowers Fire Company and was a lifetime member of the fire Company. He was known to many as "Poppop". He leaves behind his loving wife, of 55 years, Phyllis Kirby French; two children, Rita French Wells and husband Joe, David John French and significant other Jill Landing; one sister, Marion Brewington and husband George; four grandchildren, Amie Christine Evans and husband Paul, John David French, Phillip Lee French, Nathan William Wells; two great-granddaughters, Addison and Ellie Evans and expected great grandson Jackson Dryden Evans and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Tuesday Jan. 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, Del., where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a viewing. Internment will be at Milford Community Cemetery, Milford, Delaware. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Avenue UM Church, 20 North Church St. Milford, Del. 19963 or Sardis UM Church, C/O Trinity UM Church P. O. Box 4, Frederica, Del. 19946.
