SALISBURY - John Joseph Engberg Sr. died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at the Wicomico Nursing Home. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Einar E. Engberg and Mary T. Vojtek Engberg. A graduate of Loyola College and University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, he owned Hayman's Pharmacy then later worked at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and Nanticoke Memorial Hospitals. Growing up in Arnold, Md., he developed a love for the Chesapeake Bay and fishing. After retirement, he became a charter boat captain in Crisfield. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Rae Bowen Engberg; three children, Sharon Engberg Hayes of Salisbury, John J. Engberg Jr. of Salisbury and Mark Eric Engberg of Salisbury; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Slavin of Severna Park, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Engberg; and a sister, Hilda Bunker. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Holloway Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private at Wicomico Memorial Park. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
