DENTON, Md. - Our father, John B. Irwin, who was born Sept. 10, 1931 in Denton, Md., went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2014. He is reunited with his mother, Lucy; father, John; and brothers, Henry and Reuben. He will be greatly missed by his wife of over 60 years, Mary; his five children, James Irwin, Daniel P. Irwin, Doris Lenardo, Doreen Irwin, and Karen Johnson. He enjoyed the company of his grandchildren, Christopher Jones, John Irwin, Kimberly Rivera, Cynthia Irwin, Joshua Irwin, Amy Irwin, Kelly Lucas, and Jeremiah and Stephanie Johnson, TJ and Macy Flurh; daughter-in-law, Tina Irwin; son-in-law, Michael Leonardo; and six great-grandchildren. Our father owned and operated his own businesses throughout his life, JI Trucking and John Irwin's Truck Repair until he was able to turn his attention to his life-long love of farming. Dad worked his farm until just last year. In the last year of his life, he was able to give his family the attention and love he craved. Dad was afforded many friends and he mentored many young men. He was always lending a hand to a friend of family member. It was very hard for him to say no to anyone. Our mother will miss his companionship, his ability to make her laugh, but most of all, the special love they had for each other. Everywhere that dad went, mom was by his side. There were so many things we admired about our father, his sense of humor, ability to tell a story, his strength, wisdom and intelligence, his ability to fix anything, his incredible work ethic and high morals, his commitment to whatever he decided to do, and the fact that he wasn't afraid to cry. Dad loved being around his family, felt he couldn't show his love for us enough, and hated when we had to leave. We knew he loved us all dearly, as we loved him. Please join us to celebrate our father's life on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Saint Johns Lutheran Church, 113 Lotus St., Dover.
