CAMDEN - Joan L. Sherwood of Camden, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at home. She was 83. Mrs. Sherwood was born October 20, 1930 in Chestertown, Maryland, oldest of eight children, to the late Carl O. Gustafson and Florence Bradly Gustafson. She was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers, gardens and games, but her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Sherwood, 1992; and brother, Dwight W. Gustafson, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Gary E. Sherwood and his wife Carol of Dover, Glenn H. Sherwood and his wife Gaye of Camden; daughter, Ellen S. Penawell and her husband Don of Camden; brothers, Carl A. Gustafson and his wife Marie of Chestertown, Md., James V. Gustafson and his wife Norma Jean of Church Hill, Md., Lee E. Gustafson and his wife Linda of Ingleside, Md.; sisters, Laurina V. Rust of Farmington, Betty Jean Wyble of Millville, N.J. and Faye E. Kauffman of Kennedyville, Md.; grandchildren, Rusty Penawell and his wife Jessica, Keith Penawell and his wife Kathy, Sara Seaman and her husband Willis, Karen, Douglas, David Sherwood and his wife Wendy and Justin Sherwood; 17 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Vitas Hospice, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care of Milford, 20103 Professional Park Blvd., South Building, Georgetown, DE 19947. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
