Jesse T. Woodall

Harrington - Jesse T. Woodall passed away Oct. 19, 2012 at the Hospice Center in Milford. Jesse was the son of the late George and Grace Woodall. Mr. Woodall met his wife when she was 15 and he was 16, at a birthday party, where he took her home on a bicycle. From that point on they never looked at another. They left a legacy for their children "to be as happy as Mom and Dad" During his earlier years he worked for H.H. Singer Transport in Smyrna driving a 15 ton tractor trailer hauling spring water to a silk mill . He averaged 200 miles a day and if his truck broke down he would fix it himself. He also hauled milk in an insulated tank truck. Mr. Woodall served his country in the US Army during WWII, in the Philippines and Japan, serving in the 120th field Artillery Battalion. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct medal and WWII Victory Medal. While working as a Bond Bread salesman for 20 years, he was called the whistling bread man where he was loved by his customers and knew how to make a sale. After that he worked for ABC Laundry Service. Mr. Woodall belonged to the Harrington Moose Lodge, American Legion, and Andrewsville Ruritan Club where he was a honorary member. Mr. Woodall was a member of the Bethel UMC, Andrewsville. Mr. Woodall loved to play baseball, playing for Kenton Tigers, part of the Delmar League. He also played for Andrewsville Ruritan League and managed the Bond Bread baseball team. Mr. Woodall loved to shoot pool at Wally's garage. He also was an avid hunter for rabbits, deer and squirrel. Mr Woodall had a great sense of humor and loved to play jokes on people. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him. He is survived by his wife Emily, they were married for 71 yrs; two daughters, Brenda Sheline of Harrington, Vicki (Larry) Cannon, of Greenwood; three sons, Norman (Joan) Woodall of Greenwood, Wayne Woodall of Rehoboth, and Julian Woodall of Harrington; 12 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; a brother, Franklin Woodall of Rehoboth; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his brothers, George Woodall, Julian Woodall; a sister, Virginia Hebb; grandson, Jeffery Woodall; and granddaughter, Lori Cannon A funeral service will be held Wednesday Oct. 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. with visitation prior to the service from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Melvin Funeral Home. Interment will be private .
