PRINCESS ANNE - Jerry Ruth Joyner Simpson, beloved mother and precious me-maw, 64, of Princess Anne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, in her home surrounded by her loved ones after a hard fought battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Birmingham, Ala., on Nov. 22, 1944, to Pauline Braxton and Melton Joyner, who have both preceded her in death. After living in Rock Hill, S.C., Charlotte, N.C. and Birmingham, Ala., she settled on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and has called this home since 1984. She is survived by her daughters, Mary and her husband David Cherrix of Princess Anne, Robin and her husband Ronnie Adams of Alexandria, Va., and Deanna Simpson of Princess Anne; two grandchildren whom she adored, Christopher Simpson of Princess Anne and Jazmine Simpson of Princess Anne; three brothers, Melton Joyner Jr., Rommel Joyner and Jordan "Bo" Joyner, all of Crisfield; and a sister, Verna Simonenko of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with and doing things for her children and grandchildren, who will miss her tremendously. The family will have a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Coastal Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
