SALISBURY - Jeanne Aglae Loring Young Torrey died on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at her home at Mallard Landing in Salisbury. Born in Glen Cove, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Henry C. Young Jr. and Helen Durbin Young. Because of the family's moves during the Great Depression, she was raised in several locales, including Williamstown, Pa., Pleasant Valley, Conn., and Washington, D.C. She graduated from Western High School and received an Associate's Degree from George Washington University, where she met her husband, William A. Torrey Jr. The couple moved to Salisbury in 1963, when her husband relocated the family automobile dealership to Salisbury. She was active in many community organizations and served as president of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Junior Auxiliary Board, and was a member of Green Hill Yacht & Country Club and Asbury United Methodist Church. In 1984, she and her husband moved to Oxford, where they built a home on the Tred Avon River. In 2008, following her husband's death in 2006, she moved to Mallard Landing in Salisbury. She is survived by her three sons, William A. Torrey III of Portland, Maine, Robert Y. Torrey of Salisbury and John F. Torrey of The Woodlands, Texas; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Henry C. Young. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury. The family will conduct a private inurnment service at Oxford Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
