Jean Frances Sharpe Nixon

Sharpe Nixon, 75 MILFORD - Jean Frances Sharpe Nixon passed away at Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford Delaware on the Feb. 27, 2013. She was born in Elizabeth City, N.C. on July 2, 1937, to the late Leroy A. Sharpe and Ella Marie Spellman Sharpe Mrs. Nixon married her beloved husband, Russell R. Nixon on March 30, 1980. She was an avid member of the Bethel AME Church until an earlier illness prevented her from attending on a regular basis but received communion on a regular basis. She was employed by the State Of Delaware at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School for 35 years and developed many life long relationships with many of the staff and children that attended the school. Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, gardening and visiting with church family. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Leodis (Tomboy) Sharpe; and son, Dwayne Kevin (Bunny) Sharpe. Jean is survived by husband, Russell R. Nixon; son, Derek Sharpe (Deborah) of Colo.; grandchildren, Brandon K. Sharpe, Elisse W. Sharpe, Jordan C. Showell; great granddaughter, Braelynn Sharpe; one sister, Frieda M. Randolph of N.Y.; one daughter-in-law, Linda Showell of Milford; one aunt, Mary E. Sharpe; and four uncles, James Sharpe, Gilbert, Walter and Earl Sharpe; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be Sat. Mar. 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, 205 NW 4th Street, Milford, DE. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.
