
DOVER - Jean Allegra Jones departed from this life on Friday, August 24, 2012, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware. Jean was born December 12, 1936, in Denton, Md. She was the daughter of the late James Coursey and Conmeza Stanford. Her early education was through the public school system in Caroline County. Jean was known for her love of people and her outgoing personality. She would always tell like it is. She started her career at Playtex in Dover, Delaware in 1968. Jean was hired as a 2nd shift Machine Packager for the Product Packaging Department. She later transferred to 1st shift in 1973. She remained in the same department until she retired on May 1, 1995. Jean's bright smile and love for her coworkers were two of the many things missed by those who worked with her. Jean was married to the love of her life, the Late Reverend Frederick W. Jones, Jr. who preceded her in death on December 6, 2010. The two of them are now back together in Glory! Together they had four children who were the joy of their life. As a part of their union, Jean was the First Lady of Queen Esther A.M.E. Church-Ivytown, Easton, Maryland, Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, Worton, Maryland, Holy Trinity A.M.E. Church-Edesville, Rock Hall, Maryland, and Bethel A.M.E. Church, Chestertown, Maryland. As the First Lady, Jean was a dedicated Missionary. Jean was also an Exhorter in the A.M.E. Church where she prayed and lifted up the Name of Jesus Christ. Jean had a special gift for making people laugh with the things she would say. Jean was well know for the African clothing and jewelry she sold to hundreds of people in the Tristate area and throughout the A.M.E. Connection. Jean was also known for her love of elephants and her unique elephant collection. Jean leaves her family who is mourning her passing. They are her three sons, Stanley Stanford of Dover, Christopher Jones (Sherry) of Dover, and The Rev. Charles F. Dashiell of Severn, Md.; three daughters, Melvonia Wayman of Felton, Del., Frena Jones-Lewis of Dover, and Danita Dashiell of Severn, Md.; eight grandchildren, Shawanda, Danesha, Latara, Keyondra, Javontae, Stancia, LaKeeva, and Crystal; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Stephen Coursey of Dover, James Coursey, Jr. of Greensboro, Md., and John Coursey, III of Greensboro; three sisters, Stephanie Coursey Bailey of Nashville, Tenn., Dr. Gale Coursey Barden of Houston, Texas, and Gwendolyn Joyner of Baltimore, Md.; four sisters-in-law, and one honorary daughter. Jean also leaves to mourn her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. Vistation will be Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 West Division Street, Dover from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at 10 a.m.at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 237 College Avenue, Chestertown, MD with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
