CMSGT (retired) Jay Kenneth Perry passed away peacefully surrounded by his five daughters on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in Magnolia, Delaware. He was born on December 22, 1933 to the late Margaret and Reverend Leroy Perry in Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis (Finkey) Perry, 3 brothers and a sister, all from Pennsylvania. He is survived by his five daughters: Carlene Giuttari (Frank) of Florida, Deborah Fausey (William) of Magnolia,Talletha Hampton, of Dover, DeWana Ljung of California, and Denise Balcerak (David), of Smyrna; 10 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, and his wife of 15 years, Mary Perry of Pennsylvania.
He entered the Air Force at the age of 17 and passionately served his country in several stateside assignments, as well as, deployment to Africa, Vietnam, Germany, and Alaska. During his 31 years in the Air Force, he worked tirelessly in fire and rescue; ultimately becoming Fire Chief, prior to his retirement in 1981.
Jay was known for his amazing stories, his sharp wit, and his love of country music. He was an incredible cook and enjoyed cooking big Sunday meals for his family. He had the kindest heart and warmest smile. He was a dear friend to many and will be greatly missed.
Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 301 Walker Road, Dover, Delaware 19904. Friends may call one hour before. Interment Services following at Sharon Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
