Janis Paige Donophan

DOVER and FENWICK ISLAND - Janis Paige Donophan of Dover and Fenwick Island, passed away with her husband and friends by her side, Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Kent General Hospital. Janis was born in Dover, Delaware to the late James Hutchins and Betty Andrew Hutchins. She graduated from Dover High School in 1970, received her Bachelor's Degree in 1974 from the University of Delaware and her Master's Degree from Delaware State University. Janis was a teacher for Capitol School district for 30 years and taught 1st and 2nd grade at Hartly Elementary School for 29 years. She was named twice in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Teachers Society. Janis enjoyed traveling and going to the beach. Janis is survived by her husband of 27 years, James "Jim" Donophan of Dover; brother, James Hutchins and his wife Donna of Dover; sister, Julie Plata and her husband Roger of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
