
DOVER - Jamie F. Grigsby went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 31, 2012. Jamie was born, July 11, 1934 in Charleston, S.C., to the late James and Helen (Gallashaw) Freeman. She was baptized and later married in the Israel Reformed Episcopal Church, of Charleston, S.C., where she also began her career in teaching. After relocating to Delaware, she continued her teaching in the Capitol School District, for over 25 years, mostly at the Hartly Elementary School. She was a lifetime member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; and a founding member of the athletic booster club at Delaware State University. Through her husbands career in the military, she served as past president of the N.C.O. Wives club at Dover Air Force Base. Jamie was very active in the Democratic Party and spent many years working at the polls. She also did volunteer work at Kent General Hospital in the Physical Therapy Dept. She enjoyed bowling and was an avid card player and master gardener. Jamie was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Grigsby, II, who passed in 2009 She is survived by a daughter, Dana Buckner and her husband Dennis, with whom she resided; two sisters, Virginia Joyce Howard of Charleston, S.C., and Dr. Margaret F. Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; a special brother and sister, Rod and Regina Byers; granddaughter, DaJae L. Buckner; her adopted daughters, Marlene Simmons of Wilmington, Lisa Irving and Stephanie Toslon Scott, both of Dover; and her best friend, Sallie Myrick of Dover.; two nephews, Alphonso J. Smith and his wife Charlotte, of N.C.; and Mark P. Lucas and wife Toi, of Md.; niece, Michi Howard of N.C.; as well as a host of cousins and friends. Family and friends may view Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 in the funeral home, and burial will take place at 2 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Del.
