James P. Fitzgerald

CAMBRIDGE - James P. Fitzgerald, 93, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Talbot Hospice House. He was born in Philadelphia, on Aug. 30, 1917, and was a son of the late Owen and Mary Griffin Fitzgerald. He attended and graduated from Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. Mr. Fitzgerald also graduated from LaSalle College in Philadelphia with a degree in business. He served his country in WW II, in the China Burma India Theatre, stationed in Karachi, India, and was Administrative NCO in the 181st General Hospital. He married Marie Rita Fitzgerald on Oct. 10, 1959. She passed away on Jan. 30, 2000. He was a manager at Sears for many years transferring to Cambridge in 1968, retiring in 1974. Later, he was manager of MUC in Cambridge and retired in 1991. He was a member of Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, 4th Degree Knight, lifetime member the Knights of Columbus of Archbishop Ryan Assembly in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended Men of Malvern Retreat House in Malvern, Pa., for many years. He was an active member of St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge. He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Grande and husband Santo of Easton, and Patrice Rudolphi and husband Robert of Towson; a son, Owen J. Fitzgerald of Cambridge and companion Julie Yankovich; four grandchildren, Mary Kate Grande, Nick Grande, Bridget Rudolphi and Lauren Rudolphi; a sister, Kathleen Begley of Souderton, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Fitzgerald was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Mark, John and William Fitzgerald; and a sister, Mary Clime. A memorial mass was held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church with Celebrants William Lawler and Bruce Byrolly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Hatfield, Pa. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at St. John Nuemann Cemetery in Chalfont, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Refuge of Sinners, P.O. Box 218, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to St. Peter & Paul School, 900 High Street, Easton, MD 21601. Local arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, Md.
