McCarthy, 81 SEAFORD - James Francis McCarthy, age 81, of Seaford, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Seaford. Born in Everett, Mass., the son of the late Elizabeth Evans and John P. McCarthy, he was a Civil Service Statatician for the U.S. Air Force. He also worked as a shipwright on the restoration of the USS Constitution. James served his country in the Army and the Naval Reserve. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Seaford, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Estelle Thomas McCarthy; three sons, James F. McCarthy II, and Jeffrey Thomas McCarthy of Seaford, and Daniel Brian McCarthy of Bridgeville; four daughters, Elizabeth Ann Braun of Germany, Kathleen Marie Campfield of Womelsdorf, Pa., Patricia Ann McCarthy of Harrington, and Kara Jean Powell of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Arthur McCarthy of Florida, and Paul McCarthy of Bradford, Mass.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, John McCarthy II. A Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes, Stein Highway, on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front & King Streets, Seaford, on Wednesday evening Feb. 1, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Seaford.
