HARTLY - James B. Duke died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Mr. Duke was born May 2, 1930 in Nettleboro, Ala. to the late Frank and Etta Wardell Duke. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He had worked for the State Highway Department as a concrete quality control technician for 35+ years. Mr. Duke was a little league baseball umpire, enjoyed watching cowboy western shows, gardening, especially roses, NASCAR, and the University of Alabama football "Roll Tide". His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Duke was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ethel in 2009. He is survived by three sons, Daniel Duke and wife Michelle of Dover, David Duke and wife Vickie of Ellendale, and Douglas Duke and wife Robbi of Bowers Beach; daughter, Deborah Duke of Hartly; five grandchildren, Lauren Martin and husband Eric, Christopher Duke and wife Kalie, Amber Duke, Andrew Duke and wife Ashley, and James Duke; five great-grandchildren, Austin Duke Walls, Corey Duke and Aubree Duke, Charlotte and Evelyn Martin; sisters, Betsy Walker and her husband Dick of Ala., and Henrietta Thomas of Atlanta, Ga. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com.
