WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - James Archie Mitchell, retired Air Force Master Sergeant, flight engineer, of West Sacramento, Calif., passed away at home on April 25, 2016. Born Feb. 26, 1935, Jim was the son of Archie and Elsa Mitchell, of Dover. Jim is preceded in death by his son Thomas Mitchell, of Hartly and his sister, Trudy Ward. He is survived by his children, Annita Turner, of Hartly, Terry Burris, of Marydel, Allen Mitchell and Lisa Bourne, of Bend, Ore.; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Allen, of Akron, Ohio, Charlotte Hunt and Ruth Lance, of Dover. Jim was a 1953 graduate of Dover High and in 1954 he enlisted in the Air Force. Jim started talking about his career a few years ago and didn't realize how exciting and rewarding those years were as they were happening. At one time he was part of the 7405th Support Squadron, based in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1960 to 1964, flying the Berlin Corridor. He retired in 1974 and moved to California. There he was employed with GE and recieved numerous awards and belonged to the Edison Club. He retired again in 1991. One of his hobbies after retirement was restoring RVs and campers, as well as going on roadtrips. Jim was buried in the Sacramento Valley V.A. National Cemetary in Dixon, Calif.
