Jacob Bauer

SUDLERSVILLE, MD. - Jacob Bauer died Wed., Mar. 13, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Bauer was born Mar. 14, 1925 in Rock Hall, Md., the son of the late William and Edith Bauer. He was raised in several towns across the Eastern Shore as his father was a farm hand and moved his family to find work. Mr. Bauer was a 1942 graduate of Caroline County High School. Mr. Bauer was drafted into the Army at the age of 18 after high school in 1943 and served in the American Theater of Operation during World War II. He continued to serve his country an additional six months after the war ended then spent several years in the National Guard. After completing his military service, he attended Goldey Beacom College for a short time before entering the civilian work force. He worked for Draper Foods and Canning Company in Delaware for over 30 years holding the positions of bookkeeper and office manager. Mr. Bauer married Betty Jane Morgan of Queen Anne's, Md. on Dec. 7, 1957. They raised their family in Milford, Del. After the death of his wife in 1973, he spent his time working, maintaining a home, and traveling with his children. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Council of Denton, Md. and Helen Wroten of Federalsburg, Md. He is survived by a sister, Louise Meyer of Topinabee, Mich; a daughter, Brenda Schmidt and husband Alan of Sudlersville; a son, Michael Bauer of Sudlersville; grandsons, Jacob and Tyler; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Mon., Mar. 18, 2013 at the Milford Community Cemetery, N. Walnut Street, Milford, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, 6602 Church Hill Road, Suite 300, Chestertown, MD 21620.
